Yoga for Every Body

Lydia has been practicing yoga since childhood, when her mother taught her some basic yoga poses and flows. She does not consider herself to be a “yogi” and emphasizes that the individual gets to choose what they take from the yoga traditions and cultures and what they leave, while staying respectful of the origins of yoga.

Lydia teaches yoga with the non-yogi in mind. What does that mean? It means her classes are beginner-friendly with no crazy poses requiring expert-level flexibility or strength. She also teaches in a trauma-informed manner, allowing each student to determine what works best for them and their body, removing “should” from class vocabulary. She believes in creating an environment and yoga class that is accessible to everyone. She is a 200-hour certified yoga teacher, and teaches both Kundalini and Hatha style yoga, though she would say that she practices and teaches “Kundalini lite” and Hatha yoga.

Her classes, especially Kundalini classes, are amazing for resetting your nervous system and endocrine system. Why do you want to do that? Because we tend to live in a hyper-vigilant state, with both our nerves and hormones on high-alert. This leads to adrenal fatigue, high cortisol levels, high anxiety and depression, burnout, and more. When we regularly engage in practices to reset our nervous + endocrine systems, we give our body the gift of learning how to come into homeostasis—a state of energized relaxation.

In every class, she gives her students the opportunity to check in with their body + soul, learn how energy feels in their body, and integrate the work being done by offering frequent periods of rest + stillness. This allows students to practice mindfulness, connection to their body + soul, how to work with their own body’s energy, limitations, and strengths.
